Congratulations to all those involved in the planting of the entry to the reserve today. More than 1,400 seedlings were planted by our volunteer cohort to create a mini-grassy woodland for the entry.
Special thanks to the Frankston Nature Conservation Reserve Guardians, Rotarians and the additional volunteers who helped with the planting. We now await the growth of these plants which will see a colourful floral display from our indigenous plants all year around. Did you know that Grassy Woodland is one of the most species rich ecosystems in the temperate world? An amazing array of lilies and orchids all found within the reserve will be able to be seen upon entry.
If you are looking for some plants for your home, don’t forget to visit your local indigenous nursery. You can purchase many of the plants that you see in the reserve from the Frankston Indigenous Nursery, Carrum Indigenous Nursery and The Briars. Indigenous planting helps to maintain our wildlife, particularly bird species and helps to prevent weed species from proliferating. You can ask one of the Rangers for help if you are looking to identify a plant you have seen at the reserve.
