Big shout out to 6 year old Harry who was a star at our Clean Up Australia Day this morning! We were all impressed with your desire to help clean up all the rubbish. Thank you for your efforts and encouraging your mum to come too, clearing 3 bags of rubbish from Sweetwater Creek.
Although the Reserve is fairly litter free, we do have rubbish appear from time to time near the adjacent homes, and we always have rubbish entering the Reserve through the stormwater system. We vigilantly remove this litter before it enters Sweetwater Creek, ahead of entering Port Phillip Bay. Every time you drop rubbish in the street, it is blown about by the wind, before ultimately entering a stormwater drain when it rains. Week after week we remove bags of rubbish from the drain outlets to prevent downstream contamination and pollution.
Keep our waterways clean by making sure you throw your rubbish in a bin every time. If you visit a reserve, a park or the beach, make it a priority to take your rubbish home with you and dispose of it properly. Our wildlife depend on you to do the right thing every time.
